September 11 changed many aspects of American life, even though your generation was born afterward. Think about a major event that has happened during your own lifetime, such as the COVID-19 pandemic or another event that affected your community or the country. How do you think your experience with that event helps you understand what it might have been like for Americans to experience the uncertainty and change following 9/11? Explain the connection

Prompt: September 11 changed many aspects of American life, even though your generation was born afterward. Think about a major event that has happened during your own lifetime, such as the COVID-19 pandemic or another event that affected your community or the country. How do you think your experience with that event helps you understand what it might have been like for Americans to experience the uncertainty and change following 9/11? Explain the connection

Prompt Response: A major event that has happened during my lifetime is the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic started when I was in fourth grade, and it affected the way I experienced the end of elementary school and the beginning of middle school. Not only did it affect my schooling, but it also affected my social life, which became limited to social media. This was the harsh reality for all Americans, as everyone was required to quarantine and stay home. My experience with the pandemic helped me to understand what the change following 9/11 was like. After the pandemic, new safety regulations and health codes were put in place, similarly to 9/11 where new security measures were put in place. Experiencing this major event showed how America must change and adjust to prevent future events and disasters, and how this change affects everyday life.
Summary: Today in class we had a test on “A Rose for Emily” by William Faulkner.
Reflection: I enjoyed this unit of gothic literature, I thought the writings we read by Faulkner and Dickinson throughout the past weeks were interesting and complex. It was definitely a challenge to analyze some of the works, but it helped me to better understand literary devices and usage of metaphors.
