Prompt: Emily struggles with letting go of people throughout her life, and the ending reveals the extreme length she went to in order to keep Homer with her. Why do you think some people have such a difficult time accepting loss or change? Connect Emily’s actions to your own observations or experiences with people struggling to let go.
Prompt Response: I think some people have a difficult time accepting loss and change because it's something that's out of their control, and for some people it can be very unfamiliar to not be in control of their life. When someone is connected to something deeply, losing it can be very hard to accept. This connects to Emily's actions because she could not accept her father's death and her rejection from Homer. Miss Emily struggled with change and lived in the past, which is something that people do in real life when they cannot accept change.
Summary: I wasn't present in class today, but I independently continued to read and answer questions on “A Rose for Emily” by William Faulkner.
Reflection: I enjoyed Faulkner's storytelling and style of writing out of chronological order because it made the story more interesting and complex, and it also allowed for excellent usage of foreshadowing. I overall enjoyed A Rose for Emily and thought it was fun to read.
